April 18th, 2011 No comments

If you are running a blog, e commerce store or any other website on wordpress platform and you need to clone it, here are simple steps to clone wordpress as many times as you need and all for free. But first, advantages of cloning.

There are many advantages from cloning a WP blog. It takes lots of time to install wordpress, install plugins, configure plugins, install themes, customize theme, add posts, add pages and many more steps unique for each website owner needs and requirements. Cloning helps eliminate all that extra overhead.

Here are the steps:

After you decide which website you will clone’

- In File Manager at the top you will find a Button called “Select all”

- Once all files and folders are selected, click on “Compress” button located all the way at the top to the left.

- on the root you will find wp-config.php file

- Right click this file and edit

- Look for DB_USER next to it you will find the user name of the old database.

- Copy the second half of the user name example’ if the user name is: mydog_wrdp1 then copy only wrdp1 (second half)

- Go to cpanel and then MySQL Databasses

- Under “Add New User” paste the second half of db user name in this case “wrdp1″ in the Username field without the quotes.

- Under “Add New User” paste the password in the password field

- Paste it again in the next field for password confirmation

- Click on Create User.

- In the manage “User Privileges”  click ALL PRIVILEGES and then submit.

- In MySQL Databases Under “Add New User” next to Username you will find the first half of the database name, example: “yourcat_” copy the first half of the database name without the underscore.

- Go back to the wp-config.php file and paste/replace the first half of the database name next to:

It should something like this:

define(‘DB_NAME’, ‘yourcat_wrdp1′);    // The name of the database
define(‘DB_USER’, ‘yourcat_wrdp1′);     // Your MySQL username

- Save and Close wp-config.php file

- You’re done

Open your new WP blog and login to your wp-admin dashboard and you will find all your themes and plugins configured and ready, just change the blog title and tagline and cloning is finished.

Web Hosting Guide: How to find the best hosting company for you – An Insiders Guide

January 15th, 2011 No comments

Article by Cameron Coish

Determining the best web hosting company for you is critical to your web site’s success. Whether it is for business, e-commerce, a fan site or just a hobby, the host you choose plays a large factor on how well you’ll fare in the online world. In such a flooded market with so many different hosting companies and packages out there, how do you know who to trust with your site? You want a reliable company that will make sure your site is always available, you want a support department that actually exists and can help you quickly, but of course it needs to be affordable and fit into your budget, especially if your web site isn’t intended to generate any income.Knowing your requirements is the first step in finding the best host for you. Try to determine how much disk space your site is going to require, how your site will deliver its content such as static pages like HTML or dynamic automated content via scripts like wordpress or Joomla, and of course how many visitors you are expecting to visit monthly to gauge how much bandwidth you will need. If you already have a website, you should know most of this information, if you are just creating your website and have no idea, don’t sweat it. If you are just starting out chances are you will need less then 500MB of disk space, and 5,000-10,000MB (5-10GB) of bandwidth should be sufficient for a starter. It you plan on running a personal blog or a message board, make sure the package you choose has access to a database, it’s best to pick a host that allows you at least three databases. Most hosting companies have a small basic package that should work well for the time being. If you plan to mass market your website or run a business or ecommerce site you may have a higher bandwidth requirement. Always check with potential web host’s to make sure you have growth potential. So if your website out grows your hosting package you can always move up to something with more room.Next you are going to need to determine your budget. How much can you financially afford or are willing to spend on web hosting? Figure this out before you shop for a host, don’t let a host decide your budget for you. Remember, you want a reliable web host that gives your site good uptime but offers you support should you experience a problem. Running reliable and stable servers can be expensive and so can staffing a support department 24/7. So make sure you have a practical budget that takes this into account. Do not waste your hard earned money on hosts that offer you the world for a buck or two, it will only lead to heart ache. For a basic plan with 500MB – 2,000MB storage space and 5,000MB – 10,000MB bandwidth you should expect to pay around at minimum USD for a good host. However, hosts that sell their plans at this price are not necessarily a good host.Do not be fooled by marketing gimmicks, flashy web sites or statements made on a web site! The biggest problem in the hosting industry today is the UNLIMITED sales pitch. No host worth their salt is going to offer you up unlimited everything. It’s not possible. Web servers are simply “heavy-duty” computers that use RAM and Hard drives just like your home PC or laptop. When is the last time you bought a computer with an “UNLIMITED” hard drive? As for bandwidth, sure, it could be unlimited, but only if you have unlimited money. Hosts that offer unlimited disk space and bandwidth generally “oversell” their servers. This means they can pile hundreds of customers on one server. They sell the same storage space and bandwidth they sold you, to other customers as well. What they offer you is not dedicated only to you, but to everyone. If you try to start using that unlimited space and store 25GB of files or use that unlimited Bandwidth using over 200GB a month, you will soon find your site shut for “abuse”. You see, a huge secret in the hosting rules is the TOS known as the terms of service. Some hosts will state unlimited on their sites and in the TOS they declare unlimited as 500MB or something similar. They may also limit you to what you can store on your site, saying you are only allowed to have html files. No images, videos, or anything. Sure you can upload these files and use them, but if you use that disk space and bandwidth they will shut you down and claim abuse because you uploaded files that were not allowed. Unlimited hosts have a lot of dirty tricks like this up their sleeves always stipulated in their TOS.Look for a host that is upfront about your limits. For a personal website, small business or hobby site 1000MB (1GB) is plenty of disk space and you should be more then fine with 10,000MB (10GB) of bandwidth. As your site becomes more popular you will use more bandwidth and when the time comes you can upgrade your package to include more bandwidth. All hosts include a control panel where you can track your disk and bandwidth usage so you know what you are actually using.Okay so we got your requirements, your budget and what hosts to look out for. Now it’s time to actually find your potential hosting company. You may have a web companies in mind, which is great. If not ask around with friends and family to see if they can recommend anyone or someone to avoid. Do a Google or yahoo search if you are up to it, you will find hundreds of thousands of potential web hosts. Generally in the top results on Google are “Hosting review sites” they can provide you with helpful information in narrowing down hosts, but always take the reviews with a grain of salt. These sites are often paid to post certain kinds of reviews by the hosts themselves or they are linked to affiliate systems where they get paid if you sign up with a particular host. However you find your possible hosts is up to you.Once you have a list of web hosts you are interested in, it’s time to research them and evaluate them. First make sure they offer a package that meets your budget. Then contact the hosting company, email the sales department or submit a sales ticket in their customer support panels this should be easy to find. Let them know you are a potential client, and you are interested in their services. Ask them any questions that may be on your mind, or to clarify what exactly their hosting packages include, ask about their uptime, response time to support tickets and so on. If all else fails simply ask them that if you out-grew your plan, if you could easily upgrade to a bigger one. Generally the answer should be yes, but what you are actually testing here is their response time. You want to see how long it takes for a host to respond to your inquiry. This is a good test to tell how fast their support could be. Also try to submit a support ticket, you should be able to email support@hostingcompaniesname.com or enter a support ticket via their website. Sometimes they will reply to sales tickets faster to get a new customer then reply to current customers needing support. So always check this out. When you submit a support ticket be honest and just say you are a potential client and wanted to test out the support response time. Try this at different times of the day and night to see if they truly offer ’round the clock support, this may be important should your site crash at 1AM.Next do a Google search on them, enter the companies name and then add review to the end (example: hostingcompaniesname.com review) this should pull up at least a few reviews that should help you know what you are getting into with this company. Remember always take reviews with a grain of salt. Even very reputable companies will have a bad or negative review. Try to find as many reviews as you can.Check out their guarantees, many hosting companies offer a 15, 30 or even 45 day satisfaction guarantee. This means you can try them out for that amount of time. If you don’t like them, you can get a full refund and find a new host! Always make sure to find and read the fine print on these offers to make sure there are no catches that could bilk you out of a refund should you not like their service. Also make a note to find out whether or not a host has an uptime guarantee, this will give you a rough guide on how much downtime you could expect from a hosting company, this means how often your site *may* be inaccessible. Industry standard is generally 99.9% this means your website *could* be down for as long as 45 minutes in a month. Be wary of hosts that say their uptime is 100% as it’s a fact of technology that something will at some point fail and need to be repaired or replaced. Avoid any host that offers a 95% uptime guarantee because 95% means your site could be down for as much as 30hours a month! This is not acceptable it today’s standards.Look for additional or bonus features. Some hosting companies offer extra’s like a free website builder tool, one click script installation for many useful programs like bulletin boards, word press, and many other things. Keep an eye out for extra’s like or worth of free advertising credits on sites like Google’s adwords or facebook advertising.See whether or not the company backups your website. Should their server fail or hard drive crash, your site is gone! If they have backups at least you know in an event of a disaster they will have a backup of your site for you. On this note, always make sure you backup your own website. I cannot stress enough on how important it is to backup your own website. Never rely on anyone else to do it for you. Some companies may claim they do this for you then when a disaster hits, they don’t have your backup and your site is gone. Or should you happen to wake up one to find your website and your host has disappear or gone out of business, you will have minimal downtime because you have your site backed up. This is a MUST for EVERY web site owner. Having the hosting company do it for you is only an added benefit and the third backup just in case.If you follow these steps, use a little common sense and understand that no one can offer you unlimited anything, especially for a few bucks a month, you are well on your way to finding a good, solid host that will serve you well for years to come.Cameron Coishhttp://www.2amnetwork.com

Which Is The Best Hosting Package For You?

August 20th, 2010 No comments

When you have a business to sustain and promote, one of the easiest ways to reach as many people as possible is to go online. It is virtually a requirement to have a business website nowadays, and it gives you plenty more opportunities to connect with your desired audience.

Before you can set up a website for your business you need to get a domain name and some hosting. Ideally the domain name should be the name of your business as it will be more recognisable to people. When it comes to finding suitable hosting you might be surprised by how many different options there are available. Choosing the right one for you may not always be as easy as you think.

Firstly it is not always a good idea to choose the cheapest hosting you can find. You always need to look at what you get for your money. For example a cheaper package will typically include just one domain name or the ability to host just one site. If you have plans to add more sites in the near future you should get a hosting plan that enables you to host several of them.

Another thing you need to consider is the amount of web space you will need. Generally speaking the bigger your website is going to be, the more web space you will require. Many packages have unlimited web space and this is a good thing to look for if you are going to choose a package that allows you to have unlimited websites (or at least more than one) attached to it. Always remember to look ahead as well as considering what you need now – it saves you a lot of time.

Bandwidth works in a similar way to this. The more visitors you have coming to your site the more bandwidth you will need. The size of the web pages you have and the amount of information on them can also have an effect however. Thankfully most good web packages have unlimited bandwidth available now, which often makes it better to upgrade from the most basic package you can buy.

You must also consider what other facilities you will need for your website. For example if you plan to sell products or services from your website and take payment through it as well, you will need a hosting plan that comes with an e-commerce option. The most basic plans don’t generally offer this, so be sure you compare all the best plans carefully before choosing.

As you can see, web hosting packages are complex and have many perks that may or may not be included. With that said they offer you the chance to get your business online quickly and easily, so once you have made your choice you can look forward to a brighter business future online.

Key Tips for Choosing The Best Hosting For Your Personal Website

August 20th, 2010 No comments

There are plenty of hosting options available everywhere you turn – even free ones connected to your Internet account. So much selection can make it difficult for you to decide where it’s best to host your personal website. Before you make that important decision, you need to have a grasp on what your needs truly are. The fact is, you don’t want to pay for a year’s worth of hosting service, or settle for a free but low-grade site, only to find out that you aren’t satisfied with it.

For the individuals that are new to the whole web thing, here are a few helpful hints to keep in mind.

1. You don’t actually have to have a domain name chosen (like www.whatever.com) to have a website. If you are just looking for somewhere to put family photos, so that people can view them, you can check with your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see what free offers they have. If your site is going to be used mainly for fun, then why not make use of what you already have? You’re paying for it anyway. However, you might not get the same features as you would with a hosting company.

2. Be sure you know how big your site is going to be. Photos, videos, and music take up a lot of space, much more than just the text in a “blog” (web log) or “digital diary” would.

3. Do you need ASP, PHP or PerI? If you knew how to use these, you wouldn’t be reading this introductory level article. Unless you are going to change jobs and become a webmaster, you probably don’t need these tools.

4. You need to know if your website is going to have FrontPage compatibility built in. A Microsoft application, FrontPage is a widely-used website construction tool, though not the easiest one in the world to use. If you are going to use different software or your ISP’s built-in, web-based site-building tools, you don’t need to know about it.

5. How important is “guaranteed uptime”? If you are not doing business it isn’t that critical. Every major ISP will keep your website up over 99% of the time, which should be plenty to allow your folks to check out your vacation pics.

6. Will you build your own personal website or are you going to have someone else build it for you? If you are building it yourself, you may want to choose hosting that has a lot of easy to use website building tools. If you are going to have someone else do the work, choose a hosting company with a lot of flexibility and that let’s you add pages without incurring extra cost.

7. How much money are you willing to invest if you’re not going to do it yourself? You can still have someone build an inexpensive website, but the less you wish to pay, the less functionality can be built in the site. Also, if you are investing less, than your builder may have to use some pre-constructed modules that may not have the flexibility of modules created from scratch.

8. What are the features that will be most important to your site? If you want a guestbook or a forum, you may or may not get that capability from a freebie site. If you decide to pay for hosting, make sure you get the tools you need to have the kind of site you want. This also might mean having to buy some software to build the site.

With all these questions and items to take into consideration, take your time so you make the right decision in the end. If you go with a free site from your ISP, fine, but if you want to have more control and flexibility to do everything you want to do, you will need to pay for hosting. The good news is it often starts at just three or four dollars a month (really!).

Help when you need it

Another important aspect to choosing a web host is the technical support they offer. Make sure they are reliable and that their e-mail support has guaranteed fast response times. They should offer a toll-free help line for all technical issues seeing as you might need help in a hurry. Customer service is the category, as the various “editor’s awards” at print and web tech publications make clear, that separates winning companies from the pack.

Once you have made a final choice on a web hosting company, you’re going to want to stick around for a while, so be sure it is the one you really want to go with. It can be a major pain changing hosting providers. The hassle of transferring domain names, ensuring compatibility with the prospective host and moving files can be as difficult as switching banks. This leads to a last tip: Consider registering any domain name you create as part of your hosting deal. Hosting with one company while registering your domain with another can lead to costly confusion.

Making the right decision for a web host provider is a crucial element for all citizens of cyberspace, corporate and individual alike. It’s not difficult to stake your claim, and with the great deals and strong support now available, making the wrong decision shouldn’t even be considered an option.

WHICH IS BEST HOSTING SERVICES AND WEB HOSTS?

August 20th, 2010 No comments

In order for a web site to be available on the World Wide Web, it must be hosted on a server. There are several different ways to accomplish this. Most large hosting companies will have their own servers, hosting services as cpanel webhosting, linux web site hosting, yahoo web hosting, cheap internet hosting, budget web hosting, php hosting etc and the network infrastructure needed for their site to be available on the Web. However, the equipment and technical resources needed to set up such a system are very expensive, beyond the reach of smaller companies, organizations and individual users.

Many Internet Service Providers (ISPs), such as AOL, offer free web pages for their subscribers. There are also free web hosting services, such as Geocities. However, using these services has several disadvantages. Such services will not allow you to have your own domain name, i.e. “www.yourname.com”. Instead, you will have to use the name allocated by that service. Additionally, any advertisements that appear on your site will be provided by the service, and any revenue generated from such advertisements will be kept by them, instead of coming to you. Finally there will also be restrictions on the amount of space you use and the number of visitors you can receive per month.

How can you winnow down this multitude of choices to find a company that will serve your needs? There are many different factors that may influence your choice – here we look at some of the more important ones.

First of all, you will need to know exactly what your requirements are, not only now, but also what you may need in the future. This will allow you start cutting down the number of choices from the start, especially if you know that you will be using some of the more advanced features available that may not be offered by smaller companies.

The support provided by the web hosting company is very important, especially for new or inexperienced users. Try to see how quickly a company responds to you by sending an email question to them – if you get an answer back within 24 hours then you can be fairly confident that your questions will be answered quickly. See if telephone support is available too, and test that. By the way, don’t expect telephone support to be free – some companies do charge for that, though if they do then you should expect that their email support is faster than the average.

Perform some research around the Web? There are many forums, blogs and message groups that discuss web hosting. See what sort of reputation the company you are considering has amongst users. Remember though that people complain far more easily than they compliment – don’t let one user sour you on a company that otherwise has good reports.

The operating system that is used by the web host may matter to you. There are two choices, either Unix/ Linux based or Windows based. For some, either choice would be fine, as the end-result will be identical. However, if for instance your database used MS Access, then a Windows based server would be a better choice for you. Similarly a database created using MySQL would be better hosted on a Linux server. Since Linux is free, web hosts that offer this are normally cheaper than the Windows servers. By the way, don’t let the type of software used to develop your site influence your choice – sites built using Front Page will run happily on Linux servers. However, it may be easier to write and test scripts on a machine that runs the same type of software as the server that runs the scripts.

Check what the company claims as its uptime, usually expressed as a percentage. Beware – some companies will claim that their uptime is the time that the server is powered on, rather than the time that the server is actually connected to the Internet.

Ways to Find The Best Hosting Provider

August 20th, 2010 No comments

There are many web hosting service providers available right now and some are extraordinary and come with highly touted reputations. When selecting a good web hosting provider you must make sure you do your homework prior to choosing, you want to be sure they are reliable with good customer satisfaction. Some hosting companies promise you the world but provide you with little customer support or a reliable quality network. This article should inform you of several things you want to watch out for when you start your search.

The first thing you need to do is jot down what type of web hosting services you’ll need. It is crucial also to bear in mind, if your site has potential to go viral; you would like to be sure that your hosting provider should be able to upgrade you as you move.

There are numerous kinds of hosting services accessible, for example; shared hosting, reseller hosting, vps hosting and dedicated server hosting. If you are planning to have just a small site, then shared hosting should be fine, reseller hosting would be if you wish to provide hosting to clients or want to sell hosting. Larger sites might require a VPS which is “virtual private server” that is fundamentally part of a dedicated server or node, and next there is a dedicated server, where only your own web sites are on it. It is advisable to read more info on each prior to deciding the sort of web hosting you require.

The following point you need to do is start a bit of research, and browse some reviews on a number of top web hosting companies. For example you might want to do a Google search for web hosting review sites, or perhaps be specific such as “Justhost Review” or “iPage Review”. You will get numerous results, visit no less than 5 of each, and read the good and the bad and what customers are saying about these types of web hosting companies. This may also help provide you with a feel of the pricing structures of the service you’re trying to find. Make absolutely certain to read many and not just one or two to make sure you are simply not reading fluff.

After you have a number of good web hosting providers you wish to check into more, head to their website and open up a chat session, this will allow you to see how fast their reply time is. Although often the chat is for sales, it is a good sign of the customer service. Several smaller sized companies do not have 24/7 support and if your website goes down during their off times you could lose a large amount of business.

In closing, remember there are 3 key categories that set apart a good web hosting provider from other competition. These key points are customer service, network stability and reputation. Sites that supply reviews such as “iPage Review” or “JustHost Review” or “HostGator Review”, offer valuable information in each of the three key categories, and these hosting review sites should not be overlooked when you are trying to find how to choose a good web hosting provider.

The Best Hosting Companies for Internet Marketers

August 20th, 2010 No comments

When looking around online at hosting companies that will best fit your needs there are many variables to consider. These variables will primarily be concerned with the type of site you are considering launching or even transferring. Will you be hosting a website or perhaps a blog and will it involve the use of multimedia or perhaps even be a membership site? Your use and the expected traffic flow will greatly effect the amount of bandwidth needed therefore variables such as these will differ from person to person. There are however certain requirements all internet hosting services should meet and most especially if you are involved in any type of marketing on the internet. When your site is an income generating site money then becomes involved. When this is the case there are certain expectations you will want to have met by any services under consideration!

Here is a look at 7 minimal requirements or features any internet hosting services should pass or provide if you are considering hosting any type of business online.

24/7 Support

There absolutely needs to be some way to get in contact with your hosting services if problems arise with your site online. Their availability must go beyond the ‘standard’ 9 to 5 since if your site is offline your business is shut done as well! Most reputable internet hosting services make themselves available 24/7 and this you can see by simply visiting their website.

Easy to Reach

Going one step further than the point made above, the hosting company you choose should be ‘easily’ available by phone. I do not mean they put you on hold for an indefinite period of time, which is common with many ‘tech’ support numbers. Your time is just as valuable as theirs and if a host does not recognize this, that is a bad sign and you need to steer clear of that company.

No Long Term Contracts

First there is little justification for this on the part of the host and secondly if they do not work out you want to be able to move without financial loss. Things change when you are marketing on the internet and you may need to change your venue as well to address these changes.

Solid Reputation

Look into what others are saying about any company you may be considering for hosting a website or blog of yours. This is easy enough to do online by visiting forums or even doing a search on the company to see what comes up. If there is any ‘dirt’ you need to know about it is hard to hide it online.

Price

Good hosting does not have to be expensive. Depending upon what you are looking for most internet hosting services are relatively inexpensive and you can usually get away with something for less than $10 a month.

Pricing Plans

Whether it is monthly, quarterly or yearly you need to pick a plan you are most comfortable with. Many companies offer plans based upon your expected usage and traffic as well so be sure to inquire about this.

FTP Access

File Transfer Protocol is something you definitely want made available to you so check on this right up front. Most services allow you to freely access  your own data for reasons such as backup and transferring but there are a few providers that can make this a hassle for you so get clear with them you can ftp your database! If you have a site such as a blog that has accumulated a lot of content and comments that you want to move  to another service, without access to your own database this will be difficult!

When considering any hosting companies for where you will ‘park’ your online business, there are certain minimal features or requirements you need to have. It doesn’t really matter what type of site you are creating or transferring, if you are marketing on the internet the 7 ‘must haves’ reviewed above are mandatory. In short it comes down to the reliability and accessibility you have to any internet hosting services under your consideration. In addition you MUST have control over your own site and the data it contains! Obviously there will be other variables to consider mainly concerning bandwidth, but these needs will fluctuate from person to person and business to business. So regardless of whether you are hosting a website, blog or even any type of membership site, if it is a business you will need reliability and control.
